Bird calls / bird song
Grey-crowned Babbler

Like the other Australian babblers, Grey-crowned Babblers are highly sociable and live in family groups. They have a wide range of calls, too many to present in the five samples that will fit on these sound pages. Sample 144-140 is from a single bird recorded near Coolabah in NSW, context unknown. The territorial advertising calls (or song) are usually given as a duet by just two birds, presumably the dominant adult pair of the group. Sample 170 (at Coolabah again) is the best-known and the one described in most books as the"yahoo" call.
