Hall's Babbler

Sample 103-230 from Yowah in Qld is the main territorial call, usually given as a duet by the adult pair - it is the equivalent of the well-known "ya-hoo" call of the Grey-crowned Babbler. Sample 103-250 is another duet from the same pair at Yowah, function unknown, but the birds were mildly alarmed by my presence. Sample 179-010 is another version of the "ya-hoo" call from a different pair at "Kilcowera", SE of Thargomindah. It is easy to overlook this call in the general babble of a group of birds - it is nowhere near as loud as the "yahoo" given by Grey-crowns and I have not heard it very often. Sample 007-160 was recorded at Opalton at the very northern end of the range of Hall's Babblers. This recording of a foraging group begins with some brief "yahoo" type calls, then a few contact calls followed by pleading from a fledgling who eventually gets fed.
