Eungella Honeyeaters were first recognised and described as a separate species relatively recently in 1983. They are closely related to Bridled Honeyeaters but restricted to the isolated rainforests and contiguous areas of the Eungella Plateau W of Mackay in Queensland.

The specific name hindwoodi honours one of NSW's outstanding ornithologists of the 20th century Keith Hindwood who was one of my early mentors.

In the breeding season (Oct-Dec) Eungella Honeyeaters live as pairs in dense rainforest, not an easy place to take photographs without flash, so the pictures below are the result of using a Nikon D7500 at 6400 ISO.
