Bird calls / bird song
Yellow-breasted Boatbill

Boatbills are one of the common little birds of north Queensland rainforests, not that easy to see up in the canopy but their short song repeated over and over is a constant reminder of their presence. Sample 131-400 presents a few variations in the song of one male I recorded at Broadwater Forest Park west of Ingham. Sample 091-400 is another male from Lockerbie Scrub at Cape York. Sample 090-020 is another individual from Lockerbie Scrub. Sample 071-450 is a bird from Palmerston National Park west of Innisfail. Sample LS00025 is a recording of a morning chorus from the rainforest at Iron Range - the other birds were so loud I have enhanced the call of the boatbill so you can pick it out. Notice the similarity to Cape York birds. There are two subspecies of the Yellow-breasted Boatbill in Australia, one from Iron Range northwards and the other from about Cooktown south to Paluma. They do appear to have different songs.
