Bird calls / bird song
Black Grasswren

Our second biggest and probably most sought after grasswren is actually quite a loud songster (for a grasswren). In amongst the caves and fissures of their rocky environment their calls can echo or reflect, sometimes making them hard to pinpoint. In my limited experience, most of (if not all) the singing is done by an adult male in the group. The two songs in these samples are from different birds in adjoining territories at Merten's Creek on Mitchell Plateau, W.A. The "contact call" sample is typical of the chatter given intermittently by the birds as they forage.
