Kalkadoon Grasswrens can be hard to find at the best of times and this is the only recording I have at present. You need to be very close to the birds (not easy!) to get a good recording - these sorts of sounds seem to be absorbed quite well by the spinifex environment. Lesson: Always go to bed with your tape recorder - I know people who do. The closest I ever got was when I was first looking for Kalkadoons out around Mount Isa years ago. Lying in a warm sleeping bag early one cold Mt Isa morning, my wife said to me "Grasswrens!" and sure enough, they were hopping around outside the tent.
