Bird calls / bird song
Australian Owlet-nightjar

Sample 122-372, Temora NSW. Starts off with a soft interchange with two birds giving a single note call, then one of them develops it further into the louder call that most people hear, probably a territorial advertisement call. Sample 122-320, Temora NSW. Two birds here - one starts off the first four phrases, then another four slightly different - answered briefly by another bird in the background. Sample 111-040 Round Hill Nature Reserve NSW. A single softer note given 8 times. This is sometimes expanded into the full call (as in 122-372). Sample 097-395 Nana Glen NSW. Two birds start off with the single call as in 111-040, then after the Boobook calls, a third bird chimes in. These single note calls are quite soft and probably serve as a contact between members of a pair or family.
