Bird calls / bird song
Glossy Black Cockatoo

Sample 125-300 is a family with a dependent young one constantly pleading recorded at Lake Wonboyne, NSW. When feeding the adults remain relatively silent; the loud calls at the end preceded a short flight. Sample 001-050 is another family feeding. This time the crackling noise as they crunch the Casuarina cones is the main sound. The calls of the adults are easily confused with Red-tailed Black-Cockatoo calls - Glossies seem to have a rather plaintive sound to my ear and I think they are generally softer and don't carry as far. In sample LS100523 there are several birds perched and flying between trees near their feeding area - about 30 secs into the sample there is a loud distress call from a bird that was chased by a Pied Currawong.
