Bird calls / bird song
White-browed Babbler

These samples present a range of calls of White-browed Babblers. They have quite complicated calls, often given as a duet by the adult pair or even by a group of birds and their functions are not easy to interpret - better not to try rather than guess! The fairly loud calls on tape 104-340 were given by a single bird probably calling to the rest of the group from a distance. Tape 104B-230 is of a pair of birds singing a duet in response to a replay tape - this could be construed as territorial advertisement calls, probably the closest these birds ever come to song. Tape 020-230 starts off with some chattering calls and ends with a series of loud two or three element calls sung as a duet by a pair - probably again a territorial advertisement. Tape 121-200 is another duet from a pair similar to sample 104-340 followed by a series of sharp alarm calls where several birds were calling. Tape 174-232 contains a range of softer close contact calls typical of those made between members of a foraging group.
