Red-kneed Dotterel
Erythrogonys cinctus
(Viewing 4 of 9 photos)

Red-kneed Dotterels are mainly found around the swamps of the inland but in dry times they do wander to coastal regions in search of suitable habitat. They feed around the muddy margins, mostly in shallow water but do swim quite well if need be. Except in the breeding season when pairs maintain small territories, they are found mainly singly and never form true flocks but loose aggregations sometimes occur where feeding birds mix without any aggression.
