The Blue-billed Duck is the Australian representative of a group of stiff-tailed ducks that occur worldwide. In Australia they are found mainly in the south-eastern inland, Tasmania and also far south-western Australia. Not easy to find on the whole, but they are resident in some of the suburban wetlands in Perth where they can be watched at close quarters.

Blue-billed Ducks occur only in fresh water, usually permanent deep water where they mainly feed by diving
