Click to listen to sound sample White-gaped Honeyeaters range right across tropical Australia where they inhabit humid shrubbery such as along streams and edges of monsoon forest. Once adult they live in pairs in large, well-separated territories where they feed on a wide variety of food - nectar normally only forms a small part.

Unusual for a honeyeater, their loud song is given as a duet by the male and female.
